Work party: mulching and seed sowing
Please join us as we finish preparing the soil for spring planting. We also hope to have some native seeds like violets and Virginia strawberries that need to be cold stratified so would love help sowing them too.

Come and help us plant shrubs, herbs and herbaceous perennials, and mulch the new food forest site at the college as we prepare to enter the dormant season.

Come and help us with general maintenance tasks around the school as we get ready to head into the dormant season.
Dedication ceremony: Montgomery College food forest
Join us for a special dedication ceremony to celebrate the Montgomery College Food Forest. We will have a meditation, dedication ceremony, an “Intro to Food Forests” tour and workshop, plus arts & crafts for children.
Workshop: seed saving
Learn how to save seeds for future plantings. This workshop will include guidance on when to harvest seeds to use for future planting, what to do with them once harvested, and how to process and store them.

Join us for a morning of tree planting, weeding and general maintenance as we prepare the site for the next phase of the school's mini food forest.
Workshop: backyard composting
Come and learn with Master Composter Larry Himelfarb about compost and its many benefits. Larry will walk you through the easy steps needed to make compost in your backyard and the materials that go into your bin.
Workshop: Backyard Mushroom Cultivation

Come and learn how to grow edible mushrooms in your backyard. Learn how to create a mushroom bed with woodchips, and how to inoculate, care for and harvest mushrooms from logs. This workshop is free.
Workshop & plant-out: Syntropic Agroforestry
Come out to Montgomery College Community Food Forest for an afternoon of planting, mulching, and a discussion of the techniques of Syntropic Agroforestry, a cutting edge regenerative farming technique that the college food forest is experimenting with.
We will discuss topics such as food forest maintenance, chop and drop, and integrating annual vegetables into perennial systems.

Update From May 26th Planting Day Event At Montgomery College
We're going to be potting up native seedlings, planting trees, shrubs and other perennials, and mulching (for what would a weekend be without some mulch)
There will be lots to do and learn and we'll have a number of permaculture experts on site to answer questions and guide the work. Please bring your own gloves and water if you can!
